Closet Monster

this film made me cry two times just because of the amount of depth it is. i was ASTOUNDED once I finally found out that the “closet monster” is referring to Oscar’s father. This monster has been eating and gnawing at him since his childhood. He first encountered the monster one day in elementary school. The monster was only after one thing…queer people. When Oscar tried to gather the courage to fight it…he couldn’t do it, he was too late. He encountered the monster again inside his own home on the sofa. The monster warned Oscar not to become one of his victim. so Oscar cut off his long hair and helped the monster build a tree house because that’s what he’s “supposed” to do. He’s not supposed to have long hair, check his nails a certain way, or feel an attraction to the same sex. If he does, he becomes a target. 8 years later, the monster still gnaws at him. it’s becoming more aware of Oscar. The monster knows about Oscar, what he is. Oscar himself is still unsure about himself, he doesn’t know what he is. When the monster confronts him, Oscar is enraged and kicks him into the closet where he belongs. That was the first time he fought the monster, but not the last. At a party, Oscar is determined to confess his feelings for another guy. He believes the guy is straight by the way he checks nails, but Oscar doesn’t go off that alone. A guy asks Oscar to dance, and he does. However, the whole time he’s watching someone else. When he see’s the other guy kissing a girl, his whole world shatters. Oscar runs into the bathroom to get away, but the guy who asked him to dance, follows him in. He touches Oscar and kisses him. Oscar doesn’t know how to feel. is this what it’s supposed to feel like?  Suddenly, the monster attacks. Oscar can feel the monster inside his stomach and he vomits to try to get it out. Because of this, Oscar passed out and is awakened by the guy he likes. Oscar tells him he can’t go back home because the monster is waiting for him there. So they both go inside Oscar’s treehouse where Oscar tries to find out what he is. When the boy kisses him, it feels like a waterfall. The waterfall describes the amount of emotions he felt steering in him after the kiss. Oscar is still unsure about himself. The next morning, the boy is gone. Oscar seeks out his mother and realizes he left the thing he loved the most at home with the monster, his hamster. Once he got home it was gone. The monster killed it. Oscar again felt the monster gnawing at his stomach again and at that moment he realized something. “this monster is going to eat me alive unless I build the courage to slay it.” It all became clear to him at that moment, Oscar was in fact gay. once he came to this realization, he could no longer fear the monster. However, it was still there. Oscar gathered his courage and walked willingly to the monster to slay it. He smashed something next to it as a warning and continued to approach it. The monster fled, Oscar scared the monster that was in his closet away. For the first time in 8 years, Oscar was free. He said goodbye to his hamster and watched it drift away into the ocean. Sitting in his bed, Oscar recalls a memory with his father. He could be anything he wanted in this world. It was now his turn to come up with his own dram.
