A Clockwork Orange
This makes me want to drink a glass of milk with a great friend I can talk about this novel/film with. Completely unattached, the personal experience of watching this at a sleepover after reading the book across a few weeks is killer. Whilst everyone else's grandpa might see this about a silly, stupid movie of rape... it is frankly. HOWEVER, it is more the interpretation of the movie further than the extremely surface level ultraviolence.
The title itself is metaphorical with an orange, organic, human, nature, and clockwork being quite the opposite. This oxymoron in itself already conveys the topic of conflict between the human impulsivity, which is conveyed with violence and rape in the beginning, The "clockwork experience" towards the end, and allows for YOU to choose what is better in the end, but it does point to being human over mechanical.
The novel ends with Alex reuniting with one of his Droogs, catching up on life and embracing being kind, celebrating life, and showing hospitality to one another, which is debatably one of the most human one can be.
Viddy well!
