Cure
Cure is probably the single most unnerving movie I’ve ever watched. It’s one of the only films where I genuinely had to stop halfway through and take a break because of how deeply uncomfortable it was making me feel. It honestly felt like the movie was putting me inside a psychosis episode, there’s barely any music, mostly just ambient background noise, and sometimes even that drops out completely so you’re left with total silence. It’s such a simple choice but holy shit, it’s insanely effective. I didn’t fully appreciate the cinematography at first, but about halfway through it clicked that every scene feels boxed in, like nothing outside that space exists with quick cuts, enclosed rooms, and this overwhelming sense that reality only consists of what’s happening in that exact moment. Since the idea of psychosis itself is one of my biggest fears, the film hit me hard, especially the thought that your reality could just not be real, and you wouldn’t even know it. The fact that someone could completely unravel another person in just a few minutes is horrifying, overall it’s a masterpiece probably will never rewatch it again tho.
