The Doom Generation
the way everything coalesces to finally make complete sense in that final scene is such a masterclass in surrealism fuck. the 90s are such a weird time for queer art and cinema. its right at the tail end of the aids epidemic. american empire has declared it to be the end of history, but for the queers, life was still utterly apocalyptic. everything felt like it was on fire all the time. every law every politician every institution wanted us killed, or raped and then killed, or drugged then raped then killed. what a completely phenomenal capture of the period that just hurts even more today as america regresses to this violently fascistic institutionalized queerphobia. forever relevant forever prescient until we have liberty and justice
a big no thanks to cheryl ladd
