The Thin Red Line
We’ll meet again some day. People who’ve been as close as we’ve been always meet again. I have no right to speak to you this way. I can’t stop myself. A habit so strong. Oh, my friend of all those shining years… help me leave you.
Who’s doing this? Who’s killing us, robbing us of light and life, mocking us with the sight of what we might have known. Does our ruin benefit the earth? Does it help the grass to grow and the sun to shine? Is this darkness in you too? Have you passed through this night?
Nature juxtaposed with destruction. Love juxtaposed with loss. Death with life. Rapturously photographed, deeply human cinema. Wow. Extremely anti war. Maybe the saddest war film I’ve ever seen as well. I’ve never seen such a star studded cast give such grounded performances. My first Malick, and I’m truly speechless. Undeniably a masterclass in film making.
