Arrival
10/10 Dennis Villeneuve still hasn’t missed for me. I’ve only seen 3 of his movies but he is just so amazingly great at what he does. Such a beautifully shot movie. Also a very deep movie. There is this one scene in the third act that almost broke me. Which is very hard to do to me as I don’t usually cry during movies. I felt the waterworks coming and thugged it out. 😂 I always wonder how come the movies with aliens are so realistic. I think it’s because they show us exactly how the government would mishandle situations involving extraterrestrials today.
Amy Adams is just terrific as Dr. Louise Banks. Such a convincing performance that really pulls on your heartstrings. And you just know a movies so good when you hate a character so much. Michael Stuhlbarg as Agent Halpern does such a good job at making the audience hate him. He genuinely had me balling up my fists at points. It was refreshing seeing Jermey Renner in a role like this. It was something very distinct from roles he took before in his career. Renner didn’t have the biggest role in the movie. But both his performance and role were needed.
I can’t stress how good this was. The eeriness at the start of this movie was magnificent. And they still kept the same eeriness the whole way through. Plus those ‘flashback scenes’ hit way different when you watch the movie all the way through. For that reason this definitely needs a rewatch at some point in the near future.
