Poor Things
Right at the beginning I thought that it was fucking awful, but I think that it becomes more watchable the further into the film that you get, it definitely benefits from the longer runtime.
From what I could gather, Bella matures at a faster rate than normal, based on the rapid growth of her hair from day to day, and the vast difference between her level of intelligence at the beginning of the film and at the end over a seemingly disproportionate period of time (portrayed exceptionally by Emma Stone). I guess this rapid development is facilitated by the fact that her body is already that of an adult? This doesn’t change the fact that pretty much all the men that she comes into contact with are twats who take advantage of her naivety- something which is pessimistic, but sadly not unrealistic.
The story is definitely interesting, but the set and costume design is definitely the high point.
Also, calling this film a ‘sex comedy’ is the wildest thing I have ever seen, that’s horror I fear.
