really good on rewatch 👍 the two people in front of me who kept loudly laughing every 5 seconds, looking up bullshit like “how long is raging bull” and “why did jake take a bribe” on their phones and constantly standing up and moving, i hope god punishes you.

this was a brilliant film.  i thought this was a fascinating film about scientology and religion. some of the things they put members of the cult through in this film was insane. this has one of the most stacked casts i’ve ever seen, every character in this were stars. joaquin phoenix was a standout but the best actor in this was philip seymour hoffman, who gave the performance of a lifetime, and had some of the best acting i’ve ever seen in a film.

really really good film i thought toshiro mifune was amazing in this film, almost as good as he was as kikuchiyo in seven samurai. this had a lot of changes to macbeth, but i think for the most part i prefer them i really liked how washizu was killed by his own men rather than being beheaded, i thought that was the best scene in the film and its amazing that kurosawa had real archers fire arrows at mifune.  this film was really eerie, the scenes with the spirit and miki’s ghost were so unnerving, and lady asaji’s performance was really off putting. the scene of washizu leaving the castle reminds me a lot of the scene in ran where lord hidetora leaves the castle looking like a ghost  probably my least favourite kurosawa film so far, but then again its competing against ran, seven samurai and ikiru. looking forward to watching the hidden fortress or rashomon next

dude i’d be so pissed off if a director was making a film about my life and portrayed me like this 😭😭😭 absolutely amazing film, de niro’s performance was brilliant, i’d say it’s his best behind taxi driver. loved his dynamic with joe pesci in this. i don’t think joey slept with vickie, although i do think that she cheated on jake. the ending of this film was great, i thought it was hilarious seeing how jake sees himself as a victim after everything he did
