Boy that was a mixed bag. I’m just gonna rate every single plotline (and the comedy) and see what the average is and that’s gonna be my rating lol Jacob and Cal: 4.5 - I initially thought Jacob was a prick but grew to like him. Brilliant friendship, I especially liked the conversation in the bar. Jacob and Hannah: 4 - Chemistry is off the charts. Wanted more but what we got was great Cal and Emily: 3.5 - really cute, I think they could’ve skipped the teacher scene - that felt more like filler but otherwise really cute Comedy: 3.5 - not a plotline ofc but it was really funny at times, funniest bit being “you look photoshopped” Hannah and Richard: 2.5 - it’s not awful but what was the need? Robbie and Jessica: 0.5 - eww what the fuck that was so creepy Jessica and Cal: 0.5 - what the fuck that was so weird Averages out at 2.7, so I guess it’s a 2.5. That checks out

This film is a perfect example of why I never call anyone basic apart from myself because yeah it’s in every top 4 ever but let’s face it it’s popular for a REASON Such a bittersweet but brilliant coming of age story, not sure how good it is as an adaptation as I haven’t read the book but I thought every character was really well written and the last 15 minutes got to me ngl
