Beautiful ass movie I like how this movie doesn’t have 45 minutes of water cgi showcase, I like when they go to the human city cuz it reminds me of Final Fantasy 7 Midgard uhhhhh Idk like James Cameron has done just enough to keep me wanting to continue to slurp these movies up in imax at LEAST two more times, highlights are Zoe Saldaña (easily most compelling acting of the three movies) and I liked how they expanded on Quaritch, Kiri, and Lo’ak’s stories, allowing me to care just enough about these characters to want to watch the next one. Movies gorgeous fr

Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig please never stop making these. Wake Up Dead Man does a few things in its 2 hour and 30 minute runtime that really set it apart from its predecessors and contemporaries, particularly giving roughly the first 3rd of the movie to the world building and establishing the main suspect (Josh O’Connor is amazing in this movie btw) and then after the killing happens, we get to experience things with Benoit Blanc. I think this method works very well because during this time, Father Jud is the narrator and the viewers POV into the world, but then after it’s established that he is an unreliable narrator, it allows the movie to play with your disbelief during the part of the movie where you think Wicks (One of Josh Brolin’s most fun performance's ever) is alive. All together a really sharp, witty, and well wrote mystery movie that doesn’t leave me feeling like I missed something.

I think there’s a lot of ways to look at this movie and find different meaning, just as through the course of the movie, we see Marty Mauser essentially move the “success” goal posts until he found happiness, but for me, there’s this particular narrative in this movie that hits me really hard as a young Jewish man. It’s not even that we are taught this, it’s just natural for Jewish people to have this urge to settle down, and count our blessings. Marty Supreme challenges this idea, it focuses on a first generation American who despite the world telling him to give up, he continues and continues on, and idk man I guess that’s just proactive to a big dreamer like myself. Set design, wickedly evil pacing and iconic performances absolutely are the reason why this movie works so well, and it’s clear that Josh Safdie has a particular movie style he likes to make, however I did appreciate the few moments when this movie slowed down to give us Timmy moments, he really is a special actor and giving us downtime with him to not only try to understand his mentality but to sympathize with his character as well makes the audience still want to root for Marty even tho he tries uses everyone around him to reach his goals, even if those same people are using him as well for different reasons. All in all, I think this was a story I’m so glad was told, a wild experience from start to finish, but one I won’t forget.

It brought back a primal feeling I haven’t experienced since 6th grade
