"Listen! Listen! It's not all fucked! We're gonna be okay! It's not all fucked!"
Goke's Notes:— Open's with the real-world footage of riots which was quite disorienting and thematically relevant to the film— Great opening to a completely desolate London set to a Godspeed You! Black Emperor — Very gritty low-fi visuals but you can tell from watching the film that creative composition and camera angles are key to great filmmaking — Speaking of which, LOTS and LOTS of dutch angles— I've always loved Cillian Murphy ever since I watched Batman Begins and I thought he was very great in this along with Naomie Harris, Brendan Gleeson, and Megan Burns— Why did Cillian Murphy get to keep his Irish accent but Brendan Gleeson didn't?— Incredibly tense and horrific scenes. This film is chockful of upsetting, disturbing imagery — The film overall has a grim, dispiriting tone, but there are moments of genuine joy, affection, and connection between the main leads — Great soundtrack with a fuzzy guitar feel — A great, creative filmmaker doesn't need an expensive camera to make a compelling, well-shot film — 28 days later is a prime example of that.
