Sing Street
"Roll it, this is your life, you can be anything. You gotta grab the wheel and own it. And drive it like you stole it. "
Goke's Notes:— Loved 1980s music as a teen so this film had my number the moment Conor strummed his guitar — Of course, I loved the soundtrack (the cure, duran duran, spandu ballet, phil collins) — Great 1980s period clothing and set sign — it did not feel gaudy and did not scream 1980s! like some current fare that takes place in this period — I loved the Conor and Eamon dynamic and they gave me John and Paul Vibes (similar appearances as the principal songwriters of The Beatles — will look into this theory further) — I fell in love with Lucy Boyton when I first saw this movie (I sheepishly admit). Still love her as Raphina! — John Carney blocked the members incredibly well in every shot they were together — Loved all the musical numbers especially, "Drive It Like You Stole It" (the song is enough for me to give this film 5 stars)— If Sing Street were a band I would love them as much as I loved The Police, U2, and other bands that came of age in the 1980s — I first saw this when it came out in 2016 and I loved it then and love it now — this film might enter my personal canon of "Favorite movies of All Time" — I love the story, setting, characters, and music (diegetically and non—diegetically) — To get personal here — I tried to start a band in high school (did not work out), so this film is pure wish fulfillment — LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. LOVE IT!
