Now the question is itching at my brain at whether or not Caleb is also a robot. I like how this movie (in my opinion) introduces the concept that when AI gains consciousness, it will be a type specific to them- the first of their kind and not necessarily human. The same way a human and animal are alive but hold different level of consciousness will be the case between AI and humans. Visuals were futuristic, not in an overdone way, but instead simple and sharp. Cinematography and soundtrack also had its moments.

I wish we as the viewers could get a better understanding Sissy’s and Brandon’s emotional relationship and the history behind why they are the way they are. There are some very faint hints here and there, but I wish it was a bit less ambiguous and that overall some more character development, and insight into the characters inner thoughts could come into play. It’s as one review mentioned, the film felt like two separate entities, one being about his sex life and the other his dynamic with his sister. I wish these two entities could’ve crossed over more so we could see how one impacts the other. There are some scenes which does this, like when Brandon is naked and pins Sissy down (which was very scary and disturbing) or when they have that one long conversation where Brandon mentions that Sissy “cages” him. Actually, particularly from that conversation I thought we were going to see some true turn to their relationship, but after that we just see Brandon go out and have that crazy night which does serve to highlight his addiction, and how bleak and hollow it leaves him, but just felt kind of a “basic” way to do go about showing it? Fassbender’s performance was amazing, the cinematography and score as well. The way the director shot the scenes definitely helped depict the emotions Brandon was going through, with long, uncut shots make the audience feel as if they were inside Brandon’s head. Maybe the lack of explanation was done so that viewers literally are supposed to be put into Brandon’s shoes, but I don’t know I felt that this approach left the movie a bit lacking and at times I just felt annoyed at his rude behavior rather than sympathetic. One of my favorite scenes of the movie was the dinner scene and where he fails to get freaky with the lady he’s trying to have a relationship with- that was the most that us as the viewers got to understand the deeper layers of Brandon’s character, in my opinion.

“I, too, can command the wind, sir! I have a hurricane in me that will strip Spain bare if you dare to try me!” I expected this movie to be horrible cause of the reviews, but please give it a watch, especially if you’ve watched the first one. Scenes were beautiful, the work with the lighting and the soundtrack came together to make some tear jerking, emotional moments. Costumes were also brilliant, the award it got for that department was well deserved. I saw some reviews complaining about the balance of romance, political drama, and stuff being too confusing and messy, but I thought everything followed nicely. The movie felt as if something was missing, and my best guess is going to be the layers the characters had- it seemed that Elizabeth was the only one with any depth. I feel as if the side characters could have received a little more attention. One of my favorite scenes was her at the top of the hill watching the battle unfold, and everything catch on fire, with no wig and only a white nightgown on. Despite liking the plot of the second movie a little better, the first movie is superior overall, esp with its soundtrack and the dark, suspenseful tone/aesthetic of it.

“I think the spirit of this century has finally taken me and broken me.” The movie was already good, but the second half was what truly made the impression on me. The scene where he transforms into a girl is so magical, I had to rewatch another two times- definitely one of my favorite scenes in a movie. Soundtrack was wonderful, the songs used for the romance scenes between Sasha and Orlando are so entrancing. The visuals are also another area this movie delivered with. Also, the ending scene of this movie officially became one of my all time favorites. Anyways, immortality is scary and I really want to read the book now.
