The film is very well shot, its beautiful, the acting is good. The writing, pacing, characters and cameos feel believable, grounded and feel like the film exists in an actually interconnected world, not just some writers going: lets throw Thor into this. Its an enjoyable, impressive watch. One of the best MCU films and definitely the best of the Holland Spider-Man films. If it wasn't for the giant shadow of Avengers: Doomsday looming over it, it would probably be 4 stars, however I just feel like this movie shouldn't have focused so much on introducing big potato threats like mutants (even though I don't think Spider-Man and mutants are a bad combo), as they're probably going to hog the spotlight for the upcoming Doomsday and whenever that Chekhov's Inhibitor goes off and causes the mutant holocaust.
Genuinely chilling Just rewatch the thing, its spookier the second time around and its only 7 minutes. The film does so much in such little time, its impressive. The CGI is kinda goofy for the monster.

The set design is beautiful. I really hate how the backrooms look, it sets off like a feeling of panic in me. The sound and found footage sequence is amazing, so is the first act. The characterisation in the first act is very good, it does feel and look very A24, maybe not very backroomsy. The second act (found footage-y bit) feels more backroomsy and is definitely the strongest part of the film. The third act with Mary is the weakest part of the film unfortunately, however I would argue this is because the plot moves too fast and doesn't flesh out the themes it introduces. Honestly, i think they could have basically done the 2nd act for the whole film and it would have been like 4-5 stars. Horrifying the set is practical.

I watched this horror movie at like 11am on a Sunday and the cinema was basically packed. Genuinely love horror films with small casts. Inde Navarrette's performance was fucking masterful. She is incredibly expressive and just creepy. The set design was very minimalist (probably due to the budget) and most effects were practical and convincing enough that its not like noticeable while still like clearly lower-budget. Gonna be honest, this film is basically just that relationship between like just one of the nicest girls u know and her evil-ass piece-of-shit mind-controlling boyfriend. I think Bear deserved so much worse than what happened to his pred ass. Genuinely fuck you Bear. The camera work is fun and tense; but Navarrette's performance is truly the most important part of the film. The plot is just grounded enough that the other characters' reaction to the events of the film are believable and pretty reasonable. Side characters basically just act exactly how most regular people would respond to what is clearly a fucked up relationship. This is just a side note about something the director said that isn't really a spoiler and is pretty perpendicular to the plot but the One Wish Willow isn't like cursed or like a monkey's paw. Like if you just make a non evil ass wish you just get pretty much what you wish for and probably are just happier for it. I just think that’s neat. Also this was the first like major film for most of the actors, producers and director. Also; a warning, SA is somewhat prominent in this film, its not super violent and is only briefly depicted but still.
