Sonny Boy
This show is the perfect allegory for growing up and experiencing life. It’s so perfect that I didn’t even really understand the show too well the first time I watched it years ago. Now it makes perfect sense; being lost at sea, discovering who your friends really are, discovering who your real friends are, finding the things you like/dislike, and ultimately feeling like time has stopped or is being taken away.
The show feels like you’re really watching time pass, even though the world building is so strange and abstract. It perfectly captures the feeling of blinking one day, and realizing you grew up. You’re skipping through time just trying to survive.
Besides the amazing story, everything about this show is so human. The characters feel real, the plot is so peculiar but even more soothing. The nicest touch has to be the hand painted panels behind almost every scene. It adds to the entire sense of surrealism throughout the show.
10/10.
