Watched this shortly after reading the novel. Found it pretty unsuccessful, both as a work of adaptation and on its own terms. Of course, the writers had their work cut out for them, flattening King’s dense, unwieldy 800+ page tome into an 8 episode series. Unfortunately, the result in any case is paper thin. Everything that filled those 800 pages with life and poetry has been drained away. What remains is schematic and leaden, in both the writing, the performances, and the themes.
