Green Bones

bc my ratings function more as categories vs actual ‘ratings’, the films i give 5-stars to tend to be warm, feel-good ones. if you check, they tend to be romance and/or family-oriented films. so as you can see… i did not expect that i’ll give this that. PERO TANGINA EH PANGALAWANG BESES NA AKONG PINAPANGALNGAL NI ZIG DULAY SA MMFF EH WALA TAYONG LABAN DITO HAHAHAHA anyway, given that the characters here are mostly policemen and criminals, in-expect ko na talaga that this would be yet another film about the corrupt practices of the officials yadda yadda. in-expect ko na action-packed, panay madramang batuhan ng dialogues, quotable quotes tungkol sa kagaguhan ng gobyerno. HINDI PALA. instead, this film takes on a bit of a different approach. ipinakita sa ‘tin ang kuwento nilang lahat, the relationships they have with each other, their hopes, their dreams. ipinakita sa ‘tin how they live their lives, without them being soooo self-aware of the injustices they face, which is something that other films tend to do na nakakabuwisit. GETS ‘NYO BA AKO HAHAHAHA like hindi naman tatanga-tanga ang characters natin dito, na complacent lang sa kurap na sistema or whatever— they did try to bring justice to themselves. pero hindi sila ‘yung may sermon every fucking five minutes. the film understands that the audience gets it. no need to rub anything to our faces through tacky dialogue. also, there’s one action sequence here na akala ko magiging usual dramatic bloody heavily choreographed etc— pero sobrang saglit niya lang pala HAHAHAHA tapos wala na ulit nung mga keme-kemeng palitan ng linya. it happened as fast as it would probably happen in real life. but it was still… dramatic in its own way :”””””) I APPRECIATED THAT SCENE SO MUCHHHH like ‘yung pagkaka-execute sa scene na ‘yon i love it i love it ayunnn gusto ko na hindi talaga nag-focus ang pelikulang ‘to sa violence (even though na-demonstrate naman ng pelikula kung gaano kabayolente ang sistema natin dito) at mas pinagtuonan ng pansin ‘yung mas personal na aspekto ng kurap na sistema— ‘yung mga indibiduwal, pamilya, at iba pang mga relasyon na naaapektuhan. AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF, the ending!! I LOVE THE ENDING :””) [[[[[[spoiler na ba ‘to??? HAHAHAHA]]]]]]] like ok in general kasi siyempre ayaw natin sa toxic positivity or whatever BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN THAT?? we don’t deserve any degree of happiness or hope?? hindi ibig sabihin na kailangan puro pasakit lang ang nakikita natin— lalo na’t pelikula na nga lang ito, hello </3 isang porma rin ng hustisya ang maka-move on sa buhay at makahanap ng pag-asa. and i love that the ending showed that :”) AYORNNNNNN i love this film so much!!!!! i already knew that this would be good dahil Best Picture + Zig Dulay pero na-exceed pa rin niya expectations ko WAHAHAHAHA
