makikigaya ako sa top review. i'm a Kathy sun and mercury, Sylvia moon and venus, Joey rising, Maritess mars. :3
kidding aside. this may sound silly, but as someone who enjoys psychoanalyzing people via their astrology natal charts (HELPPPP), i think the way i found it easy to correlate these women to my own chart is a testament to how well-written, how whole, how relatable, they are. each of our main characters represents a different dream, a different motivation— all challenged by the same oppressive systems that hinder every single woman in the world from truly being the persons they want to be. yet in their own ways, they persist. i put emphasis on own because even though these characters have resemblances to familiar character archetypes, they are still characters uniquely themselves— and actually? i think that, on its own, is already a statement. women are multifaceted, complex beings! women cannot be boxed, cannot be satisfied by just a single idea of progress or freedom or whatever it is that they may fight for.
if there's anything i wish this movie had more of, though— i think it would be interactions between the four hahahahaha but purely for self-indulgent reasons. siguro kasi i expected this to be a story about their friendship talaga, more than the story of each individual. nonetheless, i did enjoy naman what the story portrayed about their dynamic! in particular, i enjoyed Sylvia's and Joey's the most— the way the former's level-headedness clashes with the latter's intensity, but all the same, they found themselves in a similar predicament of being in love with a man they can't have for themselves. that conversation between them about Jerry, and that scene of Joey (secretly) witnessing the conversation between Sylvia and Robert! and interesting din how each of them dealt with the said predicament. pero ayun, feeling ko talaga puwede pang i-flesh out 'yung kung ano man ang relasyon nila sa isa't isa (at 'yung relasyon nila sa iba pang mga bida), pero kahit hindi, tingin ko naman sapat na 'yung materyal para ako na lang mag-imagine hahahahahahahahahaha
some more thoughts: Kathy, my sun sign queen! the way she values her authentic self-expression and the development of her own character more than anything else WRHGRHEGHR LUVET!! Maritess, who's soooo resilient. and like i know resilient tends to have a negative connotation na nowadays but i promise you i mean this well. she doesn't have a too-strong personality, she takes her time, BUT she will do what she can to have what she wants! the Robert/Celso thing— love it when i see gay relationships in media that don't have a too in-the-face approach when it comes to like, the social commentary. if that makes sense Joey and Nita! i've found a review that perfectly encapsulates how i feel towards their relationship, so hindi ko na uulitin 'yon
marami pa, but since this is getting too long, next time na lang HAHAHAHA i loved this!! every bit of it!!!! i need to watch more of these films about Filipino women's relationship with one another. i like stories about women in general; what more if we add another layer of relatability by making them Filipino!!!!
