Fish Tank
i think that we’ve all had at least one girl like mia in our classes and we all know what these girls smell like. she carries herself with an sense of nonchalance and rebellion that actually require a lot of effort on her part. every action is a reaction to a feeling of social rejection that seems to dictate her every move. so she loves to dance and wants to impress connor but when she feels mocked, she verbally berates everyone and walks away. two things that she does a lot. she’s a sensitive person at the end of the day and just wants to be understood.
overcompensating with a big mouth is the only thing that hides the fact that it really doesn’t take much to win her over. katie jarvis meshes two personalities very very well. her chemistry with michael feels very natural and intense. as ‘natural’ as the filmmaking feels, andrea and her dp still find a way to make it stylised and not to feel to much like a documentary. i will be revisiting this one very soon.
