The Hudsucker Proxy
This is kind of a perfect movie and incredibly underrated? With its beautiful cinematography and costume design, The Hudsucker Proxy reminds me of a disney movie or a modern fairytale set in the 50s. with a screenplay like this and with a coen brother behind the camera, a sense of playfulness was definitely required from the actors. with other wordsthis is camp for straight people. paul newman's sidney is the evil stepmother to tim robbins' cinderella and they really play it that way. you can tell how much fun they were having, but no one outdoes jennifer jason leigh.
i was in awe. the transatlantic accent, her walk, and the way she delivered her lines? a true ode to the screwball comedy it was great to watch her go back and forth with her boss too. it really has something for everyone to like and i will definitely be revisiting this one soon.
