Hamnet
i’m enamored, frankly. every frame felt like it was breathing, and i, the oxygen
i am quite speechless, again, but i will try to find the words. first, jesse buckley. what she does here is a masterwork. her energy was so palpable, i couldn’t help but feel a fragment of the emotion agnes must have felt. not just in the tense scenes, which were many (and very well paced), but in the happy moments too. i feel her smile and her yell, still, long after i’ve left the theater. the chemistry between her and paul mescal’s shakespeare is what could only be described as harmonious. mescal’s closing monologue was so disarming, i was shaking in my seat. though, we have come to expect this from him, and he never wavers. the cinematography and framing were so sincere and intelligent. my favorite shots were the wide shots in the forest, watching the trees watch agnes. the score was simple, but chill inducing, and the writing was, too, relatively simple, but so so intentional… this one absolutely deserves a rewatch, as i think it’s my film of the year.
#in cinema!
