The "White Mahdi" tries to save the barbaric tribes from each other. Many would say to separate the art from the artist, but can we really? I simply cannot, as I find this film to be an insult towards me. AND is this not just a typical Orientalist’s wet dream? Like, who am I kidding? The subtle Islamophobe elements are present throughout the film, but apparently, we’re supposed to see it as art. T.E. Lawrence is praised for being the one who achieved the miracle in the film, portrayed as the saviour of the Arabs, but in reality, he was just an advisor, a liaison, and surely wasn’t the sole architect of the revolt. Not a single mention of the McMahon–Hussein Correspondence — in his book Seven Pillars of Wisdom, he backs off by saying that he had little to no knowledge of it, but contemporary evidence suggests otherwise. Not a single mention of the Balfour Declaration, despite it being a well-known fact that T.E. Lawrence supported the cause of Zionism and truly believed that it was only with the help of Zionists that the Arab lands would ever improve.

Amazing film, except for the fact that HE DID NOT appreciate his wife one bit! I mean, what else can you expect from a film made in the 1940s though? Still, a good film.
