Tenebre
🎃Spooktober🎃 Film #37:
When visiting Rome on a book tour Peter Neal finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery. Oddly enough the killer seems to be familiar with his work. While police investigate Neal decides to take matters into his own hands. As the kills get more brutal and personal to Neal, he needs to work quickly to solve this. Or he may just be next…
First and foremost I’d like to thank Blake for inviting me to a private Horror Mystery Movie Party at The State Theatre. I had a wonderful time, and enjoyed watching my first Dario Argento film!
Man oh man where to start! This film is a classic whodunnit horror! With great twists that leave you on your toes and the edge of your seat. From the very start you feel confident on who the killer could be. Only for them to be killed in the very next scene!
I absolutely loved the tension this film built. You truly felt the pressure of which these characters would be feeling. And while we’re at it let’s talk about the brutal kills this film has. From strangulation all the way to painting a beautiful white wall red after getting a hand chopped off. There is no shortage of gory awesomeness in this film, but it doesn’t let the gore make the horror! The horror is built by the needle drop butterflies in your gut tension this builds from start to finish.
With most murder mysteries at about the halfway point you usually have a pretty safe guess as to who the killer is. Tenebre is the complete opposite. I can safely guarantee you on your first watch you WILL NOT guess who the true killer is.
And while I’m at it let me talk about that insane balls to the wall third act! I mean there’s not a second of fresh air. Right when you think it’s done… NOPE! AXE CHOP! It’s only just getting started.
Tenebre is a WONDERFUL film! I absolutely recommend you watch this! What a great film to watch during spooky season! I will absolutely be checking out the work of Argento!
