Nope
I never knew a shoe could be chillingly terrifying.
This movie was so incredible. Wow. I love the quiet and calm horror used in this. Its not loud bloody cheap jumpscares that serve no purpose besides pure shock factor. Its the complete opposite. This is a creature that has rules and follows patterns. These patterns are revealed to us in entertaining and reasonable ways. Excellent writing on Peeles part.
And outstanding cinematography. This movie looks great. Especially when Jean Jacket eats Juniper Claim. The cinematography also added to the story. We only really started seeing the thing more as the characters learned more about the thing. The beginning of the movie almost completely avoided looking at it. Loved it.
And Steven Yuen. God, he is just so incredible. This guy has charisma for days. I would go to get eaten by an alien if he was there. Just beautiful. I loved his attitude towards the gordy incident. Great writing yet again, but now coupled with a wonderful performance.
On the subject of wonderful performances, Daniel Kaluuya just sends it out of the park. Every moment he is on screen is just heaven. This guy makes it feel so much more real. Just wonderful. Now I feel like im running out of positive words to describe this movie. Im repeating the same ones too much.
Anyways, there were some just awesome moments in this film. The opening scene just makes you freeze. Absolutely frightening. But wholly incredible. And the moment when gordy looks at you, straight up became scared for my own life. That has got to be the scariest scene I have ever seen in any film.
Im going to mention the Juniper Claim eating scene again, because it was just so freaking cool. Steven Yuen, oh yeah. Cinematography, oh yeah. Costumes, oh yeah. Visual effects, oh yeah. Everything else, oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh.
And then when Kaluuya said the title of the movie, I knew it was a gem. And then he said it again. Absolute cinema.
