I can definitely see why people love Beau Travail. The cinematography is beautiful and I liked how the film shows the soldiers’ lack of affection and their yearning for intimacy beneath all the discipline and toughness of the legion. Galoup’s jealousy towards Sentain is understandable, but I found him more frustrating than tragic and I was never able to really connect with any of the characters. The dialogue also felt a bit lacking and once you undertstand what the film was trying to say, there isn‘t much left to think about. A really well-made film, but I don’t quite see the masterpiece in it
