“May everything come true. May they believe. And may they laugh at their passions. For what they call passion is not really the energy of the soul, but merely friction between the soul and the outside world. But, above all, may they believe in themselves and become as helpless as children. For softness is great and strength is worthless. When a man is born, he is soft and pliable. When he dies, he is strong and hard. When a tree grows, it is soft and pliable. But when it's dry and hard, it dies. Hardness and strength are death's companions. Flexibility and softness are the embodiment of life. That which has become hard shall not triumph.”
man oh man. this was something i gained a random interest to watch after gaining my passion back for film watching. and this made me think about everything i’ve been thinking about deep mentally for some reason. this is so deep in a spiritual journey manner, really making you have to think about what exactly is going on. it starts you off instantly with the brown coloring that signifies a world of decay, hopelessness, etc. which you shortly can pick up on as they then enter the “zone” and the coloring changes to a normal state. that is when everything starts connecting, but still with so much going unknown but you still are let known that everyone is on their own personal journey. it shows you different perspectives of people searching for their own meaning of life. you honestly need to do external research on this that’s how deep it really is. this included some of the most down to earth dialogue, this was a work of art. this will be on my mind for a while i can tell already. i already want to go back and visit some scenes. this was just so unique i can’t to see more from this director. your work is beyond appreciated Andrei Tarkovsky.
