Comet
well, well, well. now, this is a film that has me divided into polarising opinions. for almost the entirety of the film, i disliked it completely- yk the annoying guy, the dynamics, the girl, the love- THE IDEA OF LOVE FOR THAT MATTER, the hurt, the philosophy, the 'pretense' of it all. and, just when the film was about to end, maybe just 3 minutes before the end, it dawned on me that who am i to judge? who am i to judge what love is for other people, who am i to judge the kind of people others fall grossly in love with? who am i to judge what ticks their hearts? the film is not defining the idea of love, it's just showing what it is for the characters here. it's not asking us to like the characters either, it's showing us how people could fall in love for all the reasons that they could be disliked by others. the different universes, the wishful thinking, everything- you pine for what makes your heart dance. 'if we met at a different time of our lives, would we have loved each other differently?' maybe, this is what they were looking for. i was haunted by this thought that whether love is something that happens because of chance or because there is something irreplaceable about one particular person. yk how whether they'd have gone through the same thing for someone else or not. whether things are ever that GRAND. and, then i was listening to this song my friend sent me and i got it. maybe, it's never chance- i couldn't possibly fathom what was it that's irreplaceable for them but i was never supposed to understand that. it's for them to do so. i can't believe love is just chance and not a full-throttle intentional epic.
for example, if i were a guy in a planet that's a dumpyard- a planet where i am the only person, a planet where the trash of all the people i could've possibly been with in other universes are dumped even though i've never known what's love in this one- i'd maybe fall for this friend even with everything that she has trashed. i wouldn't expect an ending, maybe it needn't even be romantic- but, i'd still know love from someone i've never known only if it was that particular person. the songs she half-wrote and tossed in the bin because she thought they weren't as good or letters for that matter. her childhood toys, her old notebooks, chocolate wrappers and empty perfumes. plants that wilted away or cigarette butts she stubbed every other day. idk her broken mugs and favorite plates, old jeans and t-shirts that worn out. strings of guitar she plucked out or alarm clocks that broke down. i'd fall the way an alcoholic oscillates through a narrow lane- blissfully, unforeseen, pleased, and with a smile even if it's a face-first thrust into the sewer. i'd happily pass out as if i have seen lord in filth, knowing love is to be lived dirty even for the divines. waiting for more trash in my little wasteland. and, maybe that's my idea of love. i don't expect these characters to get it- and i don't dwell on trying to get their idea. but i do see where the film's coming from, either ways i kinda didn't like it. haven't ranted in writing cause of a film in so long, felt good hehe.
such unique cinematography, though!
