Nosferatu
It is, in fact, a Christmas movie.
So beautiful and haunting. So many references to silent film and early filmmaking that my little art history brain loves. The flawless transition between color and black and white was my favorite part.
Lily-Rose Depp was really on her exorcist game, deranged, deeply sorrowful, yet undoubtedly powerful.
This Count Orlok was perhaps the most historically accurate and true to the source material and folklore in my opinion. I was instantly reminded of “Ivan the Terrible and his son Ivan” painting or “Saturn Devouring his son”
Bill Skarsgård absolutely disappears into this role ( which was almost disappointing, but I understand the choice regardless)
Eggers really flexed his devotion to history, folklore, and cinema with this one.
I was looking forward to seeing this movie more than Celebrating Christmas and was not disappointed.
