The Shining
“Little pigs, little pigs, let me come in… not by the hair on your chinny chin chin… then I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house in.”
Wendy screaming for like a minute
“Here’s Johnny”
In terms of horror movies, I don’t think it gets any better than The Shining, it’s just so special and unique. The intense ending is built up so magnificently, due to many seeds being planted with extreme foreshadowing, keeping us at the edge of our seats as Jack descends into madness. The pacing is phenomenal, which compliments the excellent story, (credit to Stephen King) offering a viewing experience any movie enjoyer would dream of. Its horror elements are used at the correct times in order to elevate the story, as well as the lack of horror which effectively emphasises the moments where a lot of horror is displayed. I also think the impeccable usage of horror allows us to immerse ourselves in the movie, connecting the dots regarding what is going to occur in the following scenes.
Overall, it is a masterpiece that I could go on and on about without mentioning anything negative in relation to this movie. Stanley Kubrick truly is a remarkable director, and I aspire to witness his other acclaimed masterpieces due to my obvious liking of The Shining.
