Hamnet
I'm not the same person I was before watching this, I read the novel before watching this, I couldn't wait anymore and I needed to know what to expect from the film.
As an adaptation, it lacks some of the most interesting parts of the novel, of the characters, as a movie this is an entire journey.
My experience? This movie will haunt me for the rest of my life, I'll remember the death, the grief and the love I'll remember Jessie Buckley's eyes, evolving the pureness and love that I imagined Agnes would had. The acting here, this is what acting is for not to just entertain us but to turn our deepest aches on unity.
Hamnet, without spoilers, tells the story of the conception of an icon, of something that has lasted centuries at the theaters, something that is born from grief till it turned on part of the collective consciusness, tells us about a kid that existed many years ago that went by the name of Hamnet and that his impact on his family keeps afecting us still now, i write this with genuine tears on my eyes.
Hamnet is a movie, not only about grief but about the impact of it, it is about mothers, fathers, how families work, of hope, but above all it is about love, about how all the problems and blessings that hurt us or give us happiness are based on love.
Agnes means so much to me, she is a pure being, a woman without malice that only lives to benefit and to serve others, because that gives her satisfaction, she becomes a mother and a wife and that´s enough for her.
Hamnet is, and is here when i start to weep again, is that turning point in the family lifes, even when he is alive and of course, with his death, a sweet boy, a brave boy, a good son, dies and impacts his family, his community and us.
Because Hamnet is alive in all of us, he lives in every acting, every rehearsal, everytime someone buys a ticket to see the play, lives in every time we say to be or not to be, lives in every copy of the tragedy that his father wrote, lives now every time someone reads this novel and cries because of what it was, what could be, lives in every person that goes to the movie theater and feels love, pity and grief. Hamnet is here and he will never disappear, he is eternal.
