Exhuma
genuinely appreciate and enjoy the genre.
Being a Christian, I typically avoid horror films, (usually only those centered around exorcisms, I can handle thrillers, slashers, gore, etc). But I've really been trying the past few years.
This film strays away from the conventional trope of a stereotypical spiritual entity and a pathetic,, ineffectual priest who is quickly embarrassed by his inability to vanquish evil. Instead, "Exhuma" masterfully integrates cultural, historical, and spiritual elements, presenting an exorcism narrative that is both sophisticated and nuanced.
The characters in Exhuma hate evil, yet they also seek to liberate the tormented souls and honor the loved ones (of the evil souls) who remain on Earth. The film offers a compelling portrayal of the rich historical interplay between Korea and Japan, even highlighting the influence of Christianity in their spiritual landscape.
in short, Exhuma is great. watch it! Wish I could experience this in theaters.
