no star rating cause I don’t want to get burned alive for my opinion.

by knife or by gun, dying can be fun doesn’t sound like a very funny game, man…maybe like duck duck goose or something instead idk

The most spider-many spider-man movie. The entire movie literally flows exactly like insomniac’s spider-man games, it's insane. I think, at least out of Tom’s spider-man movies, this is my favorite. It just feels like such a genuine superhero movie, the closest feeling I can relate to what I’m feeling now is akin to when Superman (2025) came out. It just has this very comic-like feel while still being emotionally heavy and impactful. Like, I really liked the parts with Frank and getting to see that relationship blossom between him and Peter. It’s nice seeing Peter have these characters that aren’t just mentors or looking down on him, but rather equals who can relate to him. Also the fight scenes and web swinging are just so much fun and I think the main highlight of the movie. You’re really just left with so much joy and hope despite all the sadness that it took to get there. I love Spider-Mannnnn. The soundtrack is just alright to me, I know others really liked it but I only really cared for them opening with Tv on The Radio’s Wolf Like Me…really just brought me back to Born Again (I miss Daredevil already). Tame Impala is kinda cool?? Idk. The only reason I can’t fully give this five stars is the characterization of some characters. **Soooo spoilers here on out**: Less of a spoiler, as much as I love seeing Florence Pugh as Yelena, I don’t know why her characterization here really didn’t hit for me. I just don’t like how they frame her more so as comedic relief. Thunderbolts was great because I think Yelena works best when they portray her as this emotionally heavy character while still maintaining some humor. Obviously they can’t always have her be this depressing sad character, but I think her connection to the movie would’ve worked better if her and Peter had a relationship more like him and Frank, where the two of them can connect through loss. I think she really could’ve been a good character to enforce this idea of Peter being an adult now and not the kid every other character sees him as. I don’t know, a small critique. Big spoiler here, but just hearing the rumors of Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey had me hesitant cause it just felt so weird to introduce her in a spider-man movie of all things. However, I decided to let that go and just watch the movie, but I sadly still feel that way. I understand where they were going with her character here, but her being an enemy to Spider-man just doesn’t work for me. You wouldn’t introduce an Avenger like Iron Man in a Spider-man movie, so why introduce an X-Men like Jean in a Spider-man movie??? Also I’m sorry but I really just don’t like the characterization of her in this movie. I don’t want to be the nitpicking comic fan, but I just don’t like how bitter and angry of a character they made her. I suppose it makes sense considering the changes to her backstory and making her sister, Sara, kinda fill the place of Annie from the comics…but I don’t know, I don’t really like that change either. As sad as it is, I like the storyline of her powers manifesting from her friends death as kids and her experiencing death firsthand through her mind. It’s grim but it perfectly frames Jean’s empathy and the idea of life and death later with the Phoenix force. I feel like all this is already missing in mcu Jean Grey from these changes. HOWEVER, this is only our first introduction to Jean and she can still grow in future projects so I’ll just wait and see what they do with her character further before I complain more. I do really like the casting of Sadie Sink as Jean so I’m sure I’ll fall in love with her either way. Also also…the way they go about Jean feels a smidge like what they did with Sentry…it just feels like they like to introduce these big powerful characters in movies where their opponents aren’t strong enough to beat them so they have to come up with an emotional route instead. I do like this because you get these much more impactful moments that can resonate with the audience, but it does feel a bit like a cop out for these stronger characters. Yes, Thunderbolts and now Brand New Day have much deeper messages than “wow cool superhero movie where they fight bad guys”, but it's a bit of a disservice to some characters' potential. Another complaint is more for the entire mcu, not this movie…but how are they going to go about introducing mutants. Like, all the sudden is there just going to be a bunch of them? Is the x-gene going to be a new development in the mcu?? That wouldn’t make much sense for characters like Xavier and especially Magneto considering his entire backstory??? Likeeee, that is definitely not something they can retcon, sorry… Anyway, we’ll just wait and see, I guess…

a star for every time i fell asleep watching this ally sheedy tho…
