Seven Samurai

I'm so glad I got to see this again for its 70th anniversary theatrical re-release at Angelika Dallas, because if I didn't I would've missed out on rewatching one of the greatest feats of directing I've seen in ages. Now when I say this movie is a feat of directing magic, I don't necessarily mean it has crazy complex camera movement or has massive action set pieces that require orchestrating thousands of extras. I mean the fact that this movie is as long as it is (3 1/2 hours), and the plot is as simple as it is (village finds samurai to fight bandits, they fight bandits), and there isn't a single second I was bored? That's some damn good directing. Amazing stuff. Very, very close to a perfect 5/5 for me.
