Weapons
While I expect Weapons will divide critics, I found it to be not only one of the year’s most original horror films, but also a masterpiece of creative, visual storytelling.
Few horror films manage to balance comedy and terror effectively, yet Weapons pulls it off with ease. By undercutting its gruesome moments with unapologetically dark humour, the scares land with even greater impact than in many horror films that take themselves overly seriously.
What struck me most, however, was its respect for the audience’s intelligence. Through witty, nuanced storytelling, Weapons avoids heavy-handed exposition, instead using subtle visual cues and foreshadowing to guide the viewer, an approach that rewards both devoted cinephiles and casual moviegoers alike.
Some may be put off by the amount of comedy, but Weapons is, to me, one of the year’s best original horror films and a terrific follow-up to Barbarian from rising director Zach Cregger.
10/10 TREMENDOUS
(Yes this review is a little pretentious lmao but i loved this film so much)
