i feel like absolute shit, i haven't had a new film take over me like this in a WHILE, A24 has some fucking bangers, i can't really compare these 2 films because they're so different, but this and moonlight are 2 A24 films that made me tear up, both have their flaws, both have their positives, but one thing that stands out to me in this is paul mescal is giving one of the best performances ive ever seen, how did he not win the oscar, granted i haven't seen the whale, but like come on bro, how can you watch this and not feel the emotion pouring through his performance, the chemistry between him and frankie corio is actually insane, and she gives the best kid performance ive seen since abigail breslin in Little Miss Sunshine
ive seen people say the story is undeveloped and we don't really see what happens with Calum, they're just completely missing the point, i watched Dead Poets Society earlier today, i felt sad during that, but having watched this, it doesn't even compare, this has the cinematography, soundtrack, framing and performances that DPS doesn't have, this has so much heart in it, everything feels so authentic, i feel as if watching it at home boosted my experience because of the whole camcorder stuff, the thing with sad movies and scary movies is that if it doesn't work on you, then i get it, but this worked on me, and i loved looking at it, its not PERFECT, but it reminds me why i watch movies man, just amazing man
