Dune: Part Two
i cant even like contemplate what i just watched, or how something this good could even get made, this is my first and only form of media ive consumed of dune, so im just fucking amazed, the way denis villeneuve just constructs and builds something this grand is really insane, its movies like this that make me want to watch movies, i never thought i was really like a sci-fi guy but this is just insane, how refreshing this feels and intense it feels at the same time, you're just waiting for it to drag on and it never does, its really just perfect scene to scene
i feel like out of any 2 hr 30+ minute films, i felt the 2 dune movies the least, like maybe in the first one i did in the beginning, but for the 2nd one i did not feel it at all, which is funny because its longer, i am just like still processing how an adaptation can be this good, the score is i dont even know i cant even put into words how good it is, its better than dune 1 and that score was amazing, the sound design is insane, this might be the best dystopian world building i think ill ever see, the movie is like mad max fury road levels of visual effects and cinematography like thats genuinely how good it is, and the production design is just perfect
the performances are amazing, i think timothee chalamet is amazing in this, i still feel like he was made to play characters like marty mauser, and thats what he's best at, but he is still absolutely amazing in this, rebecca ferguson might be my favorite performance which is weird, but she was amazing, zendaya i mean shes amazing, probably my second favorite performance, javier bardem and josh brolin are on the screen and they provide so much life into the film, dave bautista, florence pugh, austin butler, christopher walken and skellan skarsgard all amazing as well
it literally strips away all of the filler from the first dune, which i loved regardless, but that film is way slower paced, but in this film it is literally always going, the visuals are just amazing, way better and brighter in the second film, dune 1 felt rustic and dull, this film is just so rich and bright, the story is not even too confusing, this is why denis villeneuve is regarded as one of the best modern directors because the way he can articulate such a complex story and make idiots like me be able to comprehend them is just insane
i mean i knew this was gonna be good, i cannot find a single flaw, i love the ending so much, it looks so good, austin butlers in it and he is fantastic, his voice is super unique and it just makes his character more engaging, amazing performance by him, the sound design in that scene is just amazing, the coloring throughout the entire film is amazing, it is just so jaw dropping how a film can look THIS good, there's actual good humor, its genuinely heartfelt at times, all of the character building in dune 1 gets expanded even more in dune 2, paul atreides as a character gets so much more expansive, its some of the best character writing ive ever seen, and the fucking earthworms man they are GREAT
i see why so many directors were afraid to tackle dune, it is a lot, but who else could do it besides denis fucking villeneuve, masterpiece start to finish, i cant even imagine like actual dune fans who've read the book, saw david lynch's dune, got disappointed, then one of the best directors of recent times comes and picks it up and delivers one amazing film and one perfect film, im literally a newcomer and i think its absolutely phenomenal, me not knowing the context of the book really enhanced my experience though, not knowing where paul atreides was going to go, and how unrestrained denis villeneuve would make the film feel, 0 complaints, best movie of 2024, its edging a 10, but for a film this dense, i feel as if i owe it a rewatch before i give it a full 10/10
