Enter the Void
WOW, holy shit, you can say its self indulgent, you can say its "shock" value, you can say the characters are shallow, you can say its saying nothing of value, but i think its a modern masterpiece that portrays hallucinations and the cycle of life and death perfectly, gaspar noe is an asshole, but he is a master at what he does, this film on a technical level is outstanding, its truly an out of body experience, it genuinely transcended me into the void, it gave me a headache midway then as i was enduring through it, it washed away, like what the fuck, it takes you through a surreal journey in a way ive never experienced, the way this film uses pov angles and distorted audio is unlike anything ive ever seen, i love how free the camera feels, even if you label this as “pretentious wrung out garbage” you cant deny the technical aspects, it’s raw and its ambitious, i dont think ill ever watch a movie even remotely similar to this
i watched a 2 hour and 23 minute cut, which might be why im so high on this, i dont think i could do 18 more minutes of this, and maybe it'll grow off me overtime, i know some people don't like it as much on rewatch, but for my first time, i think its a modern masterpiece, its one of the most disturbing and scary movies ive ever watched, but its just so amazing, despite me tripping major ballsack watching this, the actual narrative isn't hard to follow at all, even if its loose and not in depth, i wasnt confused, the film feels super long, just like climax which i love, it doesn't drag on though, gaspar noe has such a unique way of portraying his films, his camerawork can be seen in many other films, but theres a reason why nobody attempts to do what he does, its bold, people hate it, i enjoy every second of, i mean even from the opening credits, to the weird funny ending, its all perfect
this is one of the best sounding movies ive ever watched, and probably the best looking, its an absolute eye feast, it looks amazing, its like inland empire and climax combined, enter the void alongside those 2 films are films that i am never rewatching, i say that, but with enter the void i do want to rewatch it eventually, gaspar noe definitely isn't for everybody, but i love what he does, i think irreversible is never happening, at least this has some humor sometimes, its sad, the performances are absolutely amazing, the french really know how to make really good fucked up shit, i genuinely didn't expect to like it this much, i wanted something lighter, but im definitely not complaining, those last 20 minutes are pretty questionable, but other than that i love it, PERFECT 10/10
