Titane
holy fucking shit, it has been a while since ive watched any body horror, and over the span of 2 days ive watched raw and titane, its safe to say my body horror itch has been satiated and probably for a while, the french really know how to make body horror films man holy shit, this is better than raw and i honestly didn't expect it to be because i fucking LOVE raw, raw is more visceral and grotesque, this is more psychological and just emotionally devastating, its so sad and touching, i actually got really emotional near the end, and holy shit the fucking ending man, what the actual fuck, the ending is way more brutal and hits so much harder than raw's crazy ass ending, which i loved, but like what the fuck man, how can you watch that ending and feel nothing
julia ducournau is definitely one of my favorite directors, this having a 6.5 on imdb is the reason why imdb is so fucking unreliable, as well as a 3.6 on letterboxd? like what are we doing? this is easily the best body horror ive ever seen, this winning the Palme d'Or is very deserving, this is actually a masterpiece from start to finish, this is one of those films where 36 minutes in im like "yes i still have another 1 hour and 20 minutes left", like i was genuinely excited to see where the rest of the story went, and it definitely met and exceeded my expectations, like oddly enough unlike raw i really want to rewatch it to see what i missed and pick up on new things, just help me understand it more, and on a rewatch i feel like ill love this even more
i might've not understood all of the social commentary on feminism and stuff like that, as well as i didnt know what the fuck was going on with the car stuff, but who fucking cares man, its just so fucking good and unique, its never boring, always something new every scene, it doesn’t write everything out for you and doesnt explain itself much, it throws logic out of the window, but there is a clear narrative and i feel as if it explained things it wouldnt drive my curiosity more while and after watching it, like there is A LOT to unpack, and i just like every film i love i want to explore more about it
agathe rousselle and vincent lindon give fucking outstanding performances, the whole point of actors is to embody their role and make it seem like they're that person, and these 2 portray their roles perfectly, their performances make you live inside the film, there's so much to love about this film, the fucking dance scenes are hypnotic and provide some life into this dreadful ass movie, i loved their inclusion, the soundtrack is amazing, the lighting and colors are amazing, the cinematography is amazing, its super suspenseful and unsettling but in a good way, i wanted to keep raw at a 5/5, but i just couldn't after watching this, i think titane is that step up from raw and is way better of a film, still love raw though
everybody should check out this film if they want to venture into disturbing cinema, titane and raw literally changed my perspective on body horror and film in general, people might think of body horror as shit like terrifier and the human centipede, those are shitty ass torture porn movies with 0 substance, THIS is the shit that i love when it comes to body horror, body horror that conveys a deeper message and makes everything hit even harder, its a “romance” conveyed in a way that is so unique and refreshing and just makes everything so personal, when i do watch more body horror films this might pale in comparison but holy fucking shit i dont see it going down any time soon
this is one of the most disturbing movies i have ever watched, but its so fucking good, there are so much hard scenes to get through but they just stick with you and make this film so memorable, like the nose scene and a lot of scenes with the stomach, but theres really sad scenes that make you really emotional, especially that dance scene man, that shit fucking hits, as well as the ending, i was literally shaking and my jaw was dropped, really effective and memorable ending, some of the scenes provide a breather and some life into the film which make it not as bad as raw, raw is more upfront, this creeps up on you and just explodes into something insane, damn man, literally anything i watch after this is going to pale in comparison, this is a undoubtedly a masterpiece, gonna take a nice long cold shower to rinse off the grossness i just consumed, i think i need a rewatch before i can fully say its a 10/10, but this is an underrated masterpiece
