Rashomon
What a masterpiece!
Akira led us through a story that was told differently from 3 different pov.
The thief who wanted the story to be a triumph for himself.
The samurai who told story through a medium, expressed the shame and wanted the story to be a worthy of Bushido.
The wife's pov was being the victim of the thief's carnal desire and the samurai's contempt.
But the brilliance isn't about truth, it's about how people wanted the story to be their own, transform it into something they want us to see, to believe and each pov shows us a deep, dark facet of their soul.
Really impressed by the way Akira positions the audiences as the judge to somehow indicate the vague of the case.
As we still don't know who to trust, the woodcutter appeared as the sole witness, but his objectivity vanished the moment the random man ask about the knife.
We may never know what the truth is, we can just can only choose which version to believe or not.
