The film constantly had me second-guessing whether Emma Stone’s character was actually an alien or not, and i was pleasantly surprised by the end.
I also found it funny how she sounded like an AI chatbot most of the time, which, in hindsight, makes perfect sense.
I think the movie is a slight commentary on two modern-day extremes.
Teddy is the conspiracy theorist who’s convinced himself of something that isn’t true. Flat-earthers and similar groups were the first thing that came to mind.
Which is pretty funny, considering Earth is portrayed as a flat structure in the film, and he actually turns out to be right about the alien part.
Michelle is the sanitized corporate robot who only understands business and capitalism. The ultra-rich who feel completely detached from the rest of us, people like Mark Zuckerberg, who can come across as uncanny and strange to the average person.
And that’s pretty funny too, because she’s quite literally separated from humans by the fact that she isn’t one.
Oh, what a rollercoaster. First half is pretty slow, but man, does it pick up.
I’d say it was worth the watch, but i don’t think i’ll revisit this one. 👽
In conclusion: GOOD.
