This is my second Jordan Peele movie. The first was NOPE, which i enjoyed. I already knew the gist of this one going in, so some of the twists were a bit dampened.
When i saw the rabbit zoom-out shot near the beginning, i thought it dragged on a bit too long, but in hindsight it made sense. The music playing during it fit the sequence well.
Gabe seriously needed to read the room. You're seeing people who look almost exactly like your family, and your first thought is that they're there for your boat? He was way too unserious throughout the film, which i liked.
The coincidences were a nice setup: the clock reading 11:11 which is a palindrome hinting at the Tethered, the frisbee landing perfectly on the circle, Adelaide opening up about the "mirror girl", and the Tethered showing up right then and there.
Speaking of the Tethered, they were really creepy, but they were also weirdly endearing during their introduction. Not so much later.
The N.W.A needle drop was really creative and the music choices overall were excellent. Ending the film with "Les Fleurs" was amazing.
The callbacks to the opening car ride and the family's escape later on were nicely done. I also liked how we first saw the sign-holder being taken away in an ambulance, only to later see his Tethered counterpart standing in the "Hands Across America" line. That guy was most likely the first victim of the whole attack.
The ending was bittersweet. We got to see the Wilson family escape, but we also learned that the real young Adelaide had her future stolen by her Tethered counterpart. We also got a nudge that Jason knew who his mother really was.
I really liked the premise and story. I found both genuinely interesting.
The cast had great chemistry, which made the dialogue feel very natural.
But... I didn't find the movie all that scary unfortunately. Some parts were thrilling, but that's about it. 🧑🤝🧑👭👬👫
In conclusion: GOOD.
