Inception

If I’d watched this in a theatre I would have hated it because i had to constantly pause it to work out what was going on.  Once I got a better grasp of how things worked, I really enjoyed it. The concept is crazy, the action scenes were awesome and it all came together very nicely at the end. The ending had me shouting at the TV though, but I think that was intended.  I only give 5 star ratings to movies now where the ending makes me go ‘damnnnnnnn’ - like in Black Swan for example. And this had that. So I guess this should probably a 5 star movie.  But there are too many things the movie does not explain - and not because they’re meant to be cliffhangers. No, they’re just things that don’t really make sense and the movie doesn’t have the answer.  Like, how going into a dream state in the third layer got them into limbo I’ll never know. Surely this is just a fourth layer??? And how does Cobb find Saito at the end??? Strangely one question I don’t have is whether the spinning top falls over at the end. This is besides the point. Cobb has been able to let his dead wife go and can now forgive himself and allow himself happiness. Whether this is in a dream or not is irrelevant. Hell they talk about ‘catharsis’ all the time - clearly this was the point of the movie.  4.5/5
