The Shining
i first watched the shining on halloween, because who wouldn't watch a classic like this on halloween? that was two years ago and since then, despite the nature and content of the film, its become a staple in the movies i shuffle through.
sure its stephen king's novel, but not his movie. stanley kubrick did an amazing job with this film with making the environment tense throughout the film without entirely overplaying it and ruining the anxiety that builds as you progress through the film.
while i dont support the acting methods shelley was forced to go under during the film, she portrayed an amazing character. wendy torrance slowly goes from your typical wife of the time period to a petrified woman trying to save herself and her son from her crazed husband, who was slowly losing it throughout the film and finally completely lost it at the end.
the shining has been a long time favorite of mine, and will stay that way for years to come because i doubt anything can top the excellence that is this movie.
its the perfect movie to watch anytime of year if the mood and the setting is right, and despite how tense it is, is a fairly cozy film to just throw on if there's nothing else you want to watch that day.
