Sir
So will this be my favorite Bollywood film of all time? Yes, it just might. It’s right up there with Monsoon Wedding.
A slow moving tale about a housemaid who works for SIR. And the relationship that builds between them. So let me clear something: this film isn’t much about the relationship as it is about her journey into blossoming into her talent.
Tillotama Shome is one of the most underrated actresses of Bollywood. With every performance, be it a bitchy education consultant in Hindi Medium or a maid who falls in love with a wedding planner in Monsoon Wedding or a mother stuck in a crux of a war- Shome blows you away. She’s vulnerable, quiet, rambunctious and soft when needed. There’s an authenticity in her portrayal of a woman stuck in turmoil between her job and her feelings. GOD I FUCKING LOVE HER.
This movie made me feel something that I hadn’t felt in a long time. This made me smile and cry tears of joy. Even in the moment of sadness, the melancholy is somewhat bittersweet. The slow pacing helps sympathize with Ratna and you’re rooting for her to succeed in everything.
Every shot, every scene, every words means something. The more I say about this film, the lesser it is.
Go watch this damn thing on Netflix. Right now.
