Thelma
If you rate this film anything less than 4 stars, you’re a heartless monster.
One of the most charming and funny and heartwarming film I’ve seen in a while. It talks about a lot of big serious issues that we don’t like talking about namely aging, death and loneliness but it does so in ways that doesn’t hinder or lower the funniness of the film.
A lot of the film reminded me of my own grandparents on my mom’s side. They made me fall in love with literature, with cinema and trashy detective shows. I owe so much to them. I lost my grandfather a few years back but my grandmother is still slaying. Watching Thelma kicking ass reminded me of her. Seeing her relationship with her grandson reminded me of the days when me and her would watch horror soap operas late at night.
June Squibb is just that girl. I’ve seen her in so many things and she’s always the best. Here, we see her in a lead role which is a first for her. She just shines. She’s soft, cute, fiesty when needed, heartbreaking, funny. It’s such a good performance. I want to see her get an Oscar for this. I’ll be starting her campaign now. June Squibb!!!!!!!
The supporting cast is also great here. Parker Posey, Fred Hechinger and Clark Gregg are all great. Richard Roundtree (RIP legend), plays Ben who assists Thelma on this adventure and their scenes together is definitely the highlight in this film full of highlights. In one scene, as he talks about his late wife, I had tears in my eyes. He’s so good.
I loved this film so so much. I don’t have any complaints. It was perfect. I’m obsessed.
