A genuine masterpiece of the genre, I mean THAT is how you do a voiceover Jesus Christ Vietnam films may be my favourite subgenre, there’s this, good morning Vietnam, tropical thunder, deer hunter etc and they’re just all class What this film does insanely well is utilizing the sound design, cinematography, and often quasi-surrealist visuals/lighting to create an intensely haunting atmosphere. The shot that does this the most for me is 100% the shot of the chief looking down at the camera in horror for just a little too long after Fishburn dies "Never get out of the boat." “It smelled like slow death in there. Malaria. Nightmares.”

Nowhere near as bad as people online have actually made it out to be. Especially the “needle drop” everyone was criticising was just fine. Maybe too many songs, CGI a bit shoddy in places, and ruthie’s actor wasn’t great, but aside from that pretty good. The flashback sequences definitely helped.

Talk about slop
