Moonlight
happy pride month everybody 🏳️🌈🎉!!! i thought i would start the month off with a movie that i've been wanting to watch for so long and moonlight totally destroyed my expectations. absolutely beautiful. shed so much tears in the 3rd act.
this might be a movie that i can bravely call a masterpiece.
beautiful story, nuanced characters that are intertwined with one another, absolutely knockout performances from EVERYBODY, amazing cinematography and editing, so much emotional weight, and is such a grounded and touching depiction of intersectionality that still feels so revolutionary after a decade.
and i think the ending being more on the optimistic side makes it one of the greatest endings of all time. it's so important that stories like this are depicted in a more positive light rather than bordering on the line of glamorization or exploitation. and i'm so gagged with how they were able to make a relatively small scale story feel so moving.
to this day, this movie is so undertated and not talked about enough, especially when the themes in this movie are still so relevant to this day. absolutely deserving of that best picture oscar.
also the way kevin totally forgot to give those people their check after he saw chiron. like didn't even remember that table at all, just immediately "let me cook for you". gay ass 😭😭. very cute.
