so much you could talk about here tbh. i could talk in detail solely about the single shot above. probably the most well-made film I have ever seen. I think this is honestly the best movie I've seen to actually appreciate and utilise the fact that this is a movie, and not any other medium of storytelling. I've never seen more amazing visual symbolism in a movie, yet there isn't more focus on those subtle cues than the actual plot - they're just a very well-done addition, with each shot curated so perfectly. this is the stuff English teachers revel on lmao. the movie itself is astounding, and Kamal proves that Kamal Hassan the director is just as good as Kamal Hassan the actor. remains my all time favourite artist, and I think this makes it into my Top 10 of all time. a very important movie to make, and 23 years later it definitely holds up. I could recommend this to literally anyone, whether they love film or want to get into it. also sidenote, the chemistry between Rani Mukerji and Kamal is singlehandedly the best chemistry I've seen on-screen, even though they had very little time together. peak cinema
