has filmmaking ever been this cool??? has filmmaking ever been as cool as this??
i desperately want to watch this again in a cinema.
the lighting, the rain, the neon hues, the music, James Caan's sunglasses, James Caan's jacket, James Caan's accent, James Caan. this film is oozing in style. there's nothing i don't love about this film aesthetically. you want to shoot a city, you get Michael Mann.
this is one of those movies that makes you fall in love with the medium again, and makes you want to make films. everything in this inspires me. i want to do what Mann does. i want to put my own spin on it. my head is bursting with ideas. this is one of the most well-crafted movies ever. and that ending just leaves you with the highest of highs.
i love James Caan too. he's so likeable, so charismatic; i can't stop the glaze. he's my favourite part of the Godfather by a mile and is the heart of the entire thing, and this movie just develops it. genuinely one of my favourite actors with just 2 movies. he just has such a presence.
he also reminded me a lot of Ben Affleck in this movie, with both looks and mannerisms.
i need to rewatch Heat again because now I'm seriously doubting what my favourite Michael Mann picture is. and this is his debut??
brimming with style.
