human identity is fragile, fragmented and is in constant crisis the fusion of both characters on screen was peak and Alma’s confession being said twice from her perspective and elisabeth’s have totally different meaning as to one is truth being said and one being judgmental  it is very hard to understand this movie in a single watch (ofc ihad to research) iwas confused ash but iget the overall picture now maybe i will never truly understand this movie or it is meant to be like that  i liked the direction ingmar bergman went with this, some might say oh “they were the same person or an identity crisis like in fight club or primal fear” but this transcends all of these and takes it to a whole different level, human identity identifying crisis which i believe will never be truly solved  “Identity exists only when someone agrees to see it, but being seen can also destroy it” is the most complete way to explain from whatever i understood
